Pressure on abdominal muscles from pregnancy, forceful pressure from doing the wrong type of abdominal exercises or putting on weight can all cause a diastasis recti.
This protrusion is not due to excess weight. Because the abdominal muscles are separated, the internal organs are pushing against the weakened linea alba (connective tissue) causing this protrusion.
This client had a diastasis of 5 1/2 fingers which is quite severe.
