Recent photographs 3 weeks into programme…

One of our recent clients has achieved some excellent results just 3 weeks into the Tupler Technique® programme.

She started out with a severe diastasis measuring 7-7-7.  This means 7 fingers width at all 3 measurement:  Just above the belly button / At the belly button / Just below the belly button.   She started out with a waist size of 32 inches.  Just 3 weeks into the programme she has reduced this to 4 fingers width at all 3 points,  and has reduced her waist size to 29.5 inches.  You can see how much flatter her tummy has become in just 3 weeks.

I want to start the Tupler Technique® programme but I don’t live near London…

Don’t worry, you can complete the programme wherever you live.  We have clients from all over the UK using the programme to fix their mummy tummy!  The women’s / men’s packs contain everything you need to get started on the programme.  If you want some personal support and assistance you can do either of the following:

- you can arrange a one on one skype session directly with Rachel.  Rachel can discuss the severity and symptoms of your diastasis recti, answer your questions and show you how to do the exercises.  She can also help ensure you are fitting your diastasis rehab splint™ correctly.

How common is diastasis recti?

Diastasis recti seems to be a word most people haven’t heard of, yet it is surprisingly common. Many people who have this condition aren’t even aware they have it.  So many people I talk to describe their “mummy tummy” or feeling “bloated” all the time as something they have come to accept as part of being a mum.

In milder cases, the condition is often not picked up by GP’s and is considered “the norm..”.  But why put up with this when there is so much that can be done to improve it?

Unbelievably over 70% of post natal women suffer from diastasis.  It only those with very severe symptoms, that seek help.

Here at Tummy Tribe Limited we are on a mission to raise awareness of “diastasis recti” amongst pregnant and post natal women.  So much can be done during pregnancy to help prevent it and equally so much can be done to cure it and stop it getting any worse.

Why should I bother to close my diastasis?

So all mum’s have a bit of a mummy tummy right?  Why do I need to worry about closing my diastasis?   As you are probably aware closing your diastasis recti flattens and tones your tummy and reduces your waistline.

But there are many other benefits to closing your diastasis:

  • Relief of back problems
  • Improved posture
  • Relief of pelvic floor problem
  • Healed umbilical hernia – turns an “outie” to an “innie
  • Reduced risk of ventral hernia and abdominal trauma
  • Ability to push in labour more effectively

Closing your diastasis will not only change the way you look, but will also change the way you feel and improve your overall health and well being.

Tupler Technique® Training Information

One on one sessions

The first session                                                                  £120

90 minutes

At the first session we take a personal history, take measurements and photographs and run through the 4 steps of the  programme in detail.  Ongoing telephonic and email support is included and encouraged.   Some people have watched the relevant DVD and/or book by this point but it isn’t essential and some people find this session is enough to get them started on their own.

Subsequent sessions                                                          £80

60 minutes

In practice, you can choose to take additional sessions whenever you like and we can tailor make a session depending on where you have got to already but many people prefer to follow a more structured approach and commonly take 3 in total:  the introductory first session; one at end of week 3 and one at end of week 6.

At the end of week 3, we take measurements and photographs, address any issues and run through the exercises adding the headlift exercise.

At the end of week 6, we take measurements and photographs and tailor make an exercise programme incorporating Tupler Technique principles.

Shared sessions

You can arrange to share a session with another person and split the cost between you.  We follow the same structure at the single sessions (described above).

Where?

All sessions take place at the Brackenbury Natural Health clinic at 30 Brackenbury Road, London W6 0BA.  For directions go to www.brackenburyclinic.com.

By car:  Parking is available outside the clinic and you can purchase timed tickets nearby (£1.80 per hour).  Parking is free on weekends.

By tube: The nearest underground stations are Goldhawk Road (Hammersmith and City and Circle lines – 5 minutes walk), Hammersmith (Hammersmith and City, Piccadilly and District – 10 minutes walk) and Shepherd’s Bush (Central line – 15 minutes walk).

By bus:  9, 10, 27, 33,72, 94, 190, 211, 220, 237, 266, 267, 283, 290, 295, 391, H91, R69

 

You will need to email rachel@tummytribe.com to arrange an appointment.  The bulk of the appointments are on Saturdays although there is some availability on weekdays particularly in the evenings.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if you have one (don’t worry if you don’t).  You will need to pay by cash or cheque.

Online sessions

 If you live too far away it is possible to arrange to have a session with Rachel via “Skype” and many of our clients have found these online sessions very helpful.  They are the same price and timings as above.

Next free belly check event 4th October

Do you think you may have a diastasis recti?  Do you still look 5 months pregnant months after giving birth?  Do you have an utie belly button that used to be an “innie”?  Do you have poor core strength?  If you answer yes to some of these questions, you may be suffering from abdominal separation or diastasis recti.

As you can see from the diagram, the muscles separate meaning there is no support for your internal organs, which in turn causes a protruding belly.

Will wearing the diastasis rehab splint® make my muscles weaker?

This is a very valid question as some abdominal binders do weaken your muscles.  The diastasis rehab splint® will NOT weaken your abdominal muscles.  The purpose of the splint is to pull your separated muscles together.  Bringing the muscles closer together makes the Tupler Technique® exercises more effective, thus making your abdominals stronger.  By bringing the muscles closer together it helps you to feel the muscles whilst you are doing the exercises, and at the same time puts the connective tissue it a better position to heal.

Ultimately closing your diastasis recti is all about healing your connective tissue.  Compression garments that bring the belly back to the spine will weaken your muscles as they are doing the work that’s your muscles should be doing.  The Tupler Technique® programme strengthens your muscles so that they can do the job themselves.

Do I have diastasis recti?

Of course it takes time to get your body back after giving birth.  We all accept that things may not be exactly as they were, but sadly many women who are affected by a diastasis recti are simply not aware that they have it.

Awareness of the condition is improving but many GP’s do not even check for this at the 6 week check up.  Many women don’t realise there is something not quite right with their tummy until 5 or 6 months, or even years, after giving birth.

Diastasis recti is a common condition in men

Women who have had children make up a large proportion of our client base, but increasingly we are helping lots of men too.   Diastasis recti is a common occurrence in men.

So how does it happen?   There are various things that can cause a diastasis recti in men, but one of the main ones is that many men will do lots of crunches and straining exercises to try and achieve trim abdominal muscles.  These crunches can create intra abdominal pressure and cause the connective tissue to stretch.  Any weight gain then puts pressure on the weakened tissue and causes a man gut.

The great news is the Tupler Technique® can give you toned abdominals, a strong support system for your back, a smaller waist and a healthier prostate.
